- Nå ønsker jeg hjelp!
Let me introduce myself as a distant relative, Terry Dean Romstad, son of Oscar Sverre Romstad (nee Romundstad),1910-2005, son of Ole Sverkeson Romundstad 1887-1927, son of Sverke Larsson Romundstad 1853-1896, son of Lars Olson Romundstad 1816-1882, the husband of Ingeborg Andersdotter Haugen, married two Romundstad men, Sverke Jonsson (1814-1848) and Lars Olson (1816-1882).
Because my great grandfather, Sverke left Oppistua Romundstadbygda in 1882 when his father died. He took a wife, Maren O Boksasp, in Gjengset, Straumness, so he was out of the mainstream of the other Romundstads who came to America from Rindalen. In fact, Sverke and his son Ole became lumbermen in Straumness. When his mother died, Ole was only eight. When his father Sverke died, Ole was only nine. Their Gjengset farm was sold at auction and the proceeds plus eight children were dispersed. As soon as Ole was of age, he accepted his uncle's invitation and moved to Astoria, Oregon. From there he worked his way in lumber mills to Tacoma, WA. From there he sent for his girlfriend, Gunhild Betten, who was living in Betna Halsa. They were married in Tacoma, Washington My father was their only child who survived childbirth, Oscar Sverre Romstad. As their family met people outside the Norwegian community of east Tacoma, the family began to use the surname Romstad instead of Romundstad. My father married Dorothy Catherine Simon in 1935. I was born in 1938. So, even though I am called Romstad, I am really a Romundstad farm descendant.
